This Watch
We are very proud to offer this Longines Conquest automatic, model 9000, from 1959. There is no doubt about the originality of this dial - it's off-white colour is evenly flecked with a nice amount of patina. The dial has unusual arrowhead, facet-cut baton markers and dauphine hour and minute hands.
The two-piece, stainless steel, screw-back case with the Longines Conquest emblem on the case back is in very good condition. It houses the Longines automatic caliber 19as, fully serviced by us and running strongly. We've paired this watch on the original Longines-signed fixoflex bracelet, but this watch really can wear anything.
Quite rarely for a watch of this age, it comes with its original box and papers, tags and even spare links! We really like this unusual, hard shell box, which itself evokes the designs of the late 1950s and it is a real one-off set.
Extra Points
Founded in 1832, Longines has a rich and exciting history. The company produced their first movement, the 20A, in 1867 near the Swiss town of Saint-Imier, in a place called Es Longines ("long meadows"). This movement won an award at the Exhibition Universelle in Paris in the same year. Longines are credited with advancing the industrialisation of Swiss watchmaking and it because of their new mechanical procedures, they were able to produce a simple chronograph movement, the 20H, as early as 1878. It was the first mechanism that Longines had made that could be used for precise timing and it was so popular with horse racing bettors and spectators that by the end of 1886, Longines were supplying chronographs to the majority of New York's sports officials. It is still the official timekeeper of many horse races, with over 40 in its annual calendar. The Longines brand name and logo were officially registered with the United International Bureaux for the Protection of Intellectual Property (later the WIPO) in 1889. Longines is the oldest brand name registered with the WIPO that is unchanged and still in use today. Longines is now part of the Swatch Group, having joined in 1983.

We're very excited to have such a stunning watch that is a full set and one of the best sets of its kind we have had to offer for some time - we love a watch with box and papers (and even swing tags!), especially one that is 60 years old! A Conquest is perfect for the vintage watch newbie or a seasoned collector. It makes for a comfortable wear for either him or her. A perfect addition for a Longines aficionado and any watch lover.
