This Watch
We have here a Longines Conquest automatic wristwatch, model L3.655.4.86.2. Under the sapphire crystal, the silvered dial is stunning and reflects the light beautifully at different angles. The dial features Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o'clock, with baton markers for the remaining indices. Thick, steel hour, minute and sweeping central seconds make for an easy read. The date window sits at 3 o'clock and an outer minute track sits just inside the polished steel bezel.
The 39mm, stainless steel case, complete with a thick, fixed, steel bezel makes for a sporty wear, which is added to by the crown guards. Inside is the automatic L633 caliber, Longines' version of the ETA 2824, with 25 jewels (fully serviced by us and running strongly). The watch comes on it's original, stainless steel bracelet with a spare, white, rubber strap (RRP £200), but we'd recommend anything to keep that sporty look. The watch comes complete with the original box, papers and warranty card.
Extra Points
Founded in 1832, Longines has a rich and exciting history. The company produced their first movement, the 20A, in 1867 near the Swiss town of Saint-Imier, in a place called Es Longines ("long meadows"). This movement won an award at the Exhibition Universelle in Paris in the same year. Longines are credited with advancing the industrialisation of Swiss watchmaking and it because of their new mechanical procedures, they were able to produce a simple chronograph movement, the 20H, as early as 1878. It was the first mechanism that Longines had made that could be used for precise timing and it was so popular with horse racing bettors and spectators that by the end of 1886, Longines were supplying chronographs to the majority of New York's sports officials. It is still the official timekeeper of many horse races, with over 40 in its annual calendar. The Longines brand name and logo were officially registered with the United International Bureaux for the Protection of Intellectual Property (later the WIPO) in 1889. Longines is the oldest brand name registered with the WIPO that is unchanged and still in use today. Longines is now part of the Swatch Group, having joined in 1983.

What we think
We are big fans of Longines watches and their Conquest models are some of our favorites. The Conquest model dates back to the 1950s and we are particularly impressed by this piece - it's great value for money and a fantastic design! It is a good, solid, sporty option and the Art Deco influenced dial looks amazing! Now a discontinued piece, this watch is soon to become a collectable.
